Jim Hightower — no not
this Hightower —
wrote about Union Cab in the February Issue of
The Hightower Lowdown. It seems it’s an excerpt from his forthcoming
book.
I can’t say enough how fortunate I feel to be a member-owner of Union Cab. I’ve gotten used to this involved, informed, and equitable lifestyle. I’m not unique in that my credit card and checkin/savings accounts are through a credit union, not a bank, nor in that I do 90% of my grocery shopping at a cooperative. But even my coffee beans are roasted by a coop, and, well, my HMO? That, too, is a coop.
My friend, neighbor, and co-worker/owner writes this blog, which is well written and a good place to start if you’re interested in learning more about cooperating with others in order to take back control of the economic (and related) aspects of our lives.
Update: 4/4/08. Hightower will be reading from his new book at Madison’s Barrymore Theater on 4/6/8 @ 7pm, with special guests Lou and Peter Berryman (no relation), of “Double Yodel” fame.
